At the beginning of Crenshaw, Katherine Applegate describes the cat surfing and holding a "bumbershoot". I love interesting words. They capture my attention and keep me engaged in what I'm reading. This was a new word to me! I hadn't heard it before reading this book, and I loved the way it rolled around in my ears. That word was what first hooked me on this book.
