KindergartenKindergarten classes will practice using PebbleGo to conduct research. They will work with partners to read information about properties of materials. They will have the opportunity to explore and classify properties of materials in the library (print/digital text, fiction/nonfiction, picture book/chapter book, etc.)

1st gradeFirst graders will conduct research to discover what machines people use to move things. We will identify different machines using print and digital nonfiction resources. We will evaluate different types of machines to determine what machine would be best to move a large number of books from school to home.

2nd gradeSecond grade classes will read this Wonderopolis article about how dolphins use sound to communicate.
They will then explore relate resources on the media center's website that they can use to learn more, and brainstorm what they wonder about. |
3rd gradeThird grade students will read about a variety of arctic animals in order to prepare to choose one to research. They will identify and analyze text features in a variety of print and digital resources.

4th gradeFourth grade students will preview the books that are part of the Junior Book award contest for the North Carolina Children's Book Award. They will learn how to write book reviews for our media center's website.
Students will analyze book reviews to determine how to write a useful book review. Evaluate these book reviews written by 4th graders on the Scholastic website.
Evaluate these book review written by kids on DOGOnews. Compare students' reviews with this adult review. |
5th gradeFifth grade students will conduct research to investigate prominent historical figures of the Revolutionary War. Students will identify important contributions and character traits of these figures. They will note how they are depicted in art from the time period.

National Geographic Kids Animals This website has an alphabetical list of animals and facts about each one. San Diego Zoo Animals GREAT website that has information about animals at the zoo and how they are specialized to live in their habitats.
